When British forces attacked Virginia Patriots at the Battle of Great Bridge on Dec. 9, 1775, most of the British soldiers were equipped with the British army’s muzzle-loading, Land Pattern, a smooth bore flintlock musket fixed with an intimidating 17-inch triangular bladed bayonet.
