ITV is in the process of making a crime drama focused on canoe accident conman John Darwin.
The former teacher faked his death for insurance money and the channel will tell his story in the form of a compelling series on the small screen.

Chris Lang, who wrote another ITV drama Unforgotten, has already penned the four-part series, titled The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe.
Filming for the show is set to begin this spring and Lang thoroughly enjoyed writing the series.

The extraordinary and compelling story of how John Darwin faked his own death to claim life insurance and avoid bankruptcy will be told in a new ITV drama, The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe written by acclaimed screenwriter Chris Lang.
The four part drama, relates how Anne Darwin’s husband, a prison officer, came up with the hare-brained scheme to defraud insurance companies, unbeknownst to their two sons.
The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe, will be produced by Story Films, the company founded by three times BAFTA-winning director, David Nath (The Murder Detectives, My Name is Lizzie) and fellow award-winning director Peter Beard. Susie Liggat (Giri/Haji) also executive produces with Alison Sterling (The Windermere Children) producing.
