SOMERSET The Old Rochester football team never forgot its 42-15 opening-day loss to Dighton-Rehoboth five weeks ago.
In Saturday’s South Coast Conference semifinal game, the Bulldogs picked the perfect time to get their revenge.
“It was a battle … Old Rochester is much more improved,” Dighton-Rehoboth head coach Dave Moura said. “They have some great athletes over there. Basically, [it] came down to drive-for-drive and [we] just ran out of time.”
The Bulldogs advance to the SCC Blue Division championship game after beating the Falcons, 36-35, in an exciting semifinal game at Somerset Berkley Regional High School.
“It was a little bit of everything, I can’t really explain it,” he said.
With his teammates yelling to him, ‘One more play,’ Dixon rose to his feet and got into his middle linebacker position.
“I just kept pushing myself,” Dixon said. “One more play is all we needed. I got their back and they got my back.”
Like it has done all season, Apponequet’s defense rose to the occasion on Saturday with a slew of tacklers, including Dixon, stopping D-R’s Aidan O’Connor on fourth down from the four as the Lakers pulled out a thrilling 21-13 double-overtime victory over the host Falcons in a matchup of South Coast Conference unbeaten teams at Taunton High.
