Pocatello-Chubbuck stays with modified learning plan

Trustees voted Tuesday to continue the instructional model aimed at adapting to COVID-19. “The board will reconvene in mid-February to determine the course for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year,” district spokeswoman Courtney Fisher said after the meeting. Tuesday’s decision keeps the district’s K-5 students in a “modified traditional instructional model,” which groups learners in cohorts to receive face-to-face instruction five days a week. Secondary students participate in a hybrid learning model, with two days per week devoted to in-person instruction and three days of remote learning.

Bannock County officials last week certified patron petitions to recall trustees Dave Mattson, Jackie Cranor and Janie Gebhardt over their handling of recent issues, county elections administrator Julie Hancock told EdNews. Unless the trustees resign by Dec. 17, they will face potential recall in an upcoming election, likely on March 9, Hancock said Tuesday. “We plan to discuss (a timeframe) this afternoon.”

Recall efforts against three SD25 school board trustees moves to the next phase

The clock is running for three local school board members. A recall drive started in September to oust Pocatello/Chubbuck School Trustees Jackie Cranor, Janie Gebhardt, and Chairperson Dave Mattson has moved into its next phase. Since then, organizers have collected and turned in enough signatures to trigger a recall election. And now, Election Administrator Julie Hancock tells KPVI that according to the recall requirements, the three board members have until December 17 to announce their resignations or else Bannock County Clerk Jason Dixon will order a recall election. The parents who organized the recall effort told KPVI that while the school district is offering a hybrid model of in class and online learning, they want the option of a full-time, in class schedule.
