Councillors release statement after traffic chaos in Wroughton

Councillors said they were working with the borough council to ensure that the difficulties of Wednesday night, when several lorries tried to turn around or reverse up Brimble Hill, were not repeated. Ward councillors Cathy and Dave Martyn claimed a closure on A346 the resulted in articulated lorries and a bus being directed down Brimble Hill into Wroughton. The vehicles were faced with the closure on Marlborough Road, where Thames Water are digging up the road.

Swindon election: Holds for Conservatives and hope for Labour as first results revealed Labour councillors started the count in the borough council elections feeling very gloomy.  The ended the first set of results – five councillors in four wards with room if not for optimism, at least some hope.  The first result, Blunsdon and Highworth was a very solid hold for the Conservatives, electing new councillor Vijay Manro  replacing cabinet member Maureen Penny.  Kevin Small, long-term senior Labour councillor for Mannington & Western looked at risk, and the tightness of the vote was shown when candidates were looking at spoiled ballots very keenly indeed. But he emerged victorious by 132 votes. Labour’s majority slashed, but enough for a win.
