Legendary Bluegrass guitarist Tony Rice died on Christmas Day. Hailed as a masterful musician, he worked with music royalty like Dave Grisman, Ricky Skaggs, Norman Blake and Bela Fleck. In 1975, he joined forces with JD Crowe and released the landmark New South album that today is still referred to simply by its catalog number “Rounder 0044.” He also co-founded the phenomenal “Bluegrass Album Band” which today is still revered as a one of the first supergroups of the genre. In 2013, he was inducted into the International Bluegrass Hall of Fame. Locals might recall seeing him in performance in the early 2000s when he played a festival in Chesapeake City Park.
