TAMPA BAY There may as well have been a complete power outage at the Tampa Bay Times Forum on Saturday night. The Tampa Bay Storm were beaten 48-37 by the Pittsburgh Power on a night in which they backdoored their way into the playoffs. Tampa Bay is in the postseason courtesy of losses by both the Orlando Predators and the New Orleans VooDoo on Saturday.
After what could be described as an interesting night in the Arena Football League last night, the second night of the AFL season appears to be ready to go in Chicago.
When I received the announcement last week that the Tampa Bay Storm would be changing their logo and uniform, I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive. As someone who has been a fan of the Storm and the Arena Football League since they first moved to the area in 1991 from Pittsburgh, I had no idea what to expect.
It took 25 seasons, but this is the first time in AFL history that the league's two most storied franchises are not in the playoffs in the same season.
Last season wasn't exactly a banner year for quarterbacks around the Arena Football League. It was the first time in the AFL v2.0 era that only two men threw for more than 100 touchdowns, and it was the first time since 2002 that no one completed even 68 percent of his passes.
