dollars, between $10,000 and $200,000 a grant? guest: maybe we should give taxpayer money to ping-pong players because some could think ping-pong is an art but to me ping-pong is a game. look, i was a music major in college and i love the arts but when tens of millions of americans are out of work, there is so much pain and suffering, and there is so much uncertainty about the budget crisis, our government seems to be stretching the limits of wastefulness, not containing it. so many of the programs what lofty goals but now they are a perversion of the original intention. does anyone believe we should borrow 43 cents of each dollar to produce video games? that is absurd. dave: the national endowment of arts, tens of billions in these tight economic times when
games you thing of call and duty, and the like, exactly who would be getting the taxpayer dollars? and why? guest: well, i want to make sure the understanding is that those types of commercial games are not at all up for any sort of federal funding. it is the same as saying the latest hollywood blockbuster is up for federal funding. we are talking about games given, or grants given to indie developers who develop artistic games that the nea deemed have artistic merit. dave: why? guest: video games are valid art as film and music and anything else. you have in the video game development process several artists creating a product that can only be considered art. dave: are video games valid form of art? should they get taxpayer
