Custom Solar has been chosen to deliver Portsmouth City Council’s ‘ground-breaking’ solar and battery installation at Portsmouth International Port.
The system will incorporate roof-mounted solar panels across several buildings, as well as a large battery and solar canopies. Overall, the 750kW peak system will include 1,670 solar panels, capable of contributing 30% of the sites power.
It will be the first UK port to have solar canopies and a megawatt sized battery installed as part of a renewable installation according to Portsmouth City Council s energy services team.
The 1MWh battery will capture power that would otherwise be exported, and will work in tandem with an upcoming battery pilot at the port. Portsmouth City Council has awarded Siemens Mobility a contract to design a clean air zone (CAZ) to the south west side of the city.
It has begun to work with the council, the Government’s Joint Air Quality Unit and other programme partners on the design of the solution, which will involve the installation of its Sicore II ANPR cameras at 42 locations across the zone.
They will identify and register every vehicle that enters the CAZ, passing the information to the national database for vehicle checking and payment.
This follows a public consultation during the summer, and the CAZ is expected to be ready for live testing in August 2021 and for full implementation by November.
