The Davao City Fire District-Bureau of Fire Protection-Davao (BFP-Davao) reports six fire-related deaths in the first ten months of 2023, double the number of deaths in all of 2022. 34 individuals have been reported injured this year, compared to 15 last year. The main cause of fire incidents is electrical short circuit, followed by human fault such as playing with matches and throwing cigarette butts.
Davao City slum areas are prone to fire incidents due to illegal and haphazard electrical connections, poor air circulation, and close proximity of houses.
