Photo from DPWH May 20, 2021 THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that the first long-distance mountain tunnel in the Philippines with an approximate length of 2.3 kilometers (km) will be constructed in Davao City this July.
In a press release, DPWH said it is about to roll out the construction of two 2.3-km tunnel, which corresponds to the central portion of the Davao City Bypass Construction Project in Southern Mindanao financed by Official Development Assistance (ODA) of the Government of Japan through Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica).
Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said that essential machinery has started to arrive in the Philippines for the road tunnel construction, which is expected to develop Filipino skilled workers with new technological know-how.

Published February 3, 2021 6:46pm Two major sections of the P14.9-billion Japan-funded Central Luzon Express Link Expressway (CLLEX) Phase 1 have been completed despite the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) said Wednesday. In a statement, JICA said the Tarlac and Rio Chico bridge sections of the 30-kilometer CLLEX Phase have been recently completed. The CLLEX Phase I is among the key infrastructure projects that the JICA is supporting under the administration’s Build, Build, Build program in partnership with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
