Can low-cost Malaysian airlines help post-pandemic tourism recovery?

Low-cost carriers could help lead post-pandemic tourism recovery and help grow demand for travel. Frugal cost-cutting measures taken and operational responsiveness will see these carriers move quickly to absorb pent-up travel demand and capitalise on any opportunities, says data and analytics company GlobalData. “Low-cost carriers have trimmed costs well. Although all airlines have drastically reduced costs to weather the storm created by Covid-19, it is evident that low-cost carriers have managed to push already low-cost bases even lower, ” said GlobalData tourism analyst Gus Gardner. He added that low-cost carriers can operate cash-positive routes with a lower load factor, which is important with the current low levels of demand.

KLIA scores perfect 5/5 in latest global Airport Service Quality survey

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 30): Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said KL International Airport has achieved a perfect score of 5/5 and gained the top spot in the latest global Airport Service Quality (ASQ) survey. The ASQ survey was administered by Airports Council International (ACI) for the category of over 40 million passengers per annum in the fourth quarter of 2020 (4Q20). In a statement today, MAHB said among the main contributors to the improved service levels at KLIA last year are the implementation of the new travel protocols that achieved full score for the ASQ element of ‘feeling of safe and secure’, the newly refurbished washrooms for the element ‘cleanliness and availability of washrooms’ and the exceptional customer experience provided to passengers for the ‘courtesy and helpfulness’ element.
