GEORGE TOWN: People have been steadily lining up at the City Stadium here on Monday (July 5) to take part in the Penang government s mass Covid-19 screening.
This screening marks the first day of the state s move to test 40,000 people, with Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow saying that this is a public health measure to tackle the spread of Covid-19 through targeted community screening in the state. The purpose of this program is to identify and isolate individuals with Covid-19 and then control the spread of the virus,” said Chow.
He added at a press conference at the stadium on Monday that the objective of the testing is also in line with the state government’s intention to reduce the number of Covid-19 cases by breaking the chain of infection in the community.

On the night of May 24, 2021, an incident involving two Malaysian Light Rail Transit (LRT) trains saw 213 passengers finding themselves victims of the country s worst-ever rail-related accident.
According to reports, the accident specifically involved trains 81 and 40 on the Kelana Jaya line.
Train 81 left the KLCC station and was ferrying 213 passengers, while an empty train 40 (save for one operator) left the Kampung Baru station and was on its way for scheduled maintenance.
