PETALING JAYA: The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at Mentari Court has ended a day ahead of schedule to the great joy of those staying there.
Shouts of terima kasih (thank you) and singing rang out across all apartment blocks as the barb wire surrounding the entrance of the apartment was removed.
Petaling district officer Datuk Johary Anuar, at a press conference there, said that the ECMO ended a day earlier due to good cooperation between frontliners and inhabitants. It was actually scheduled to end on Wednesday (July 14), but since all health checks and vaccinations have been completed, we asked the National Security Council to bring the end date forward.
PETALING JAYA: All individuals who tested negative for Covid-19 at Mentari Court, which has been placed under the enhanced movement control order, will be vaccinated starting Sunday.
Petaling district officer Datuk Johary Anuar said this would be the first time vaccines would be given in an area under enhanced MCO in Selangor, as the aim was to curb the spread of the virus effectively.
“Mentari Court has more than 17,000 residents in 3,469 units of houses and so far we have detected 500 positive cases in the area.
“The vaccines will be administered at Mentari Court itself. All residents, including foreigners, will be given vaccines,” he said outside the apartment complex yesterday.
“They are Mentari Court and Pangsapuri Westlite-PKNS.”
The third area Taman Perumahan SS91A in Sungai Way which was in the list announced on Tuesday, did not exist in Petaling Jaya, he clarified.
“Another area in the Petaling district was initially identified, but there is no need to place it under enhanced MCO because the district health office said the Covid-19 cases there had ended, ” he said during a site visit to Mentari Court.

Johary said the enhanced MCO at Mentari Court involved 3, 469 apartment units across seven blocks and some 17, 000 residents.
SUBANG JAYA: The Selangor government is working on a plan involving Covid-19 screening for communities affected by positive cases linked to schools, in view of the increase in such cases in the state in recent weeks.
“This plan includes identifying the students, the targeted people to be screened and the community radius (how big an area), ” said Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
“The type of school also matters; it is easier to screen and contain cases for boarding schools (where students live and study on the same premises) compared to daily schools, where students commute between school and home.”
