JOHOR BARU: Any contest in Umno will not necessarily divide or weaken the party however keen or hot it may be, says Johor Umno chief Datuk Hasni Mohammad.
Hasni said that it was important to adhere to the party constitution, which stipulates that the three year term could be extended a further 18 months due to a general election or a natural disaster.
“Umno is already a 75-year-old party, and there have been past party elections which were hotly contested among big names while there were times it was rather muted, ” he said, adding that however keen the contest is, he did not think it would cause a division.
