KEPALA BATAS: Several states have requested the Federal Government to set up field hospitals to cope with the increasing number of Covid-19 patients, says Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said the requests came from Negri Sembilan and Kelantan, among others and the ministry would look into it on an as-needed basis.
“What we can do now is to use every available space we have so that we can treat high-risk Covid-19 patients, ” he told reporters during a walkabout at the army’s field hospital with its intensive care unit (ICU) outside Kepala Batas Hospital yesterday.
Currently, the army has set up four such field hospitals in Kapit, Sarawak; Tawau, Sabah; Pokok Sena in Alor Setar, and here in Kepala Batas, he said.

GEORGE TOWN: Khairy Jamaluddin s allegation that the offer of two million doses of Sinovac vaccine to the Penang government was by a bogus company is a serious matter, says Chow Kon Yeow.
The Penang Chief Minister said the serious allegation warrants the company and its director named by the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister to come forward to refute the allegations. As for the state government, we took prudent action - when we received the offer through a letter dated Feb 1 this year - by asking the state Health Department to look into the matter. The state Health Department then requested that the matter be presented to the Health Ministry for further advice, he said in a statement on Wednesday (May 19).
