Sporadic rainfall expected throughout Taiwan

Taipei, April 25 (CNA) There will be sporadic rainfall throughout Taiwan on Sunday as a wet weather system from southern China approaches, with more rain in the eastern region than in other places, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) forecast.

(Xinhua/Zhang Guojun) The General Administration of Customs on Feb 26 suspended imports of pineapples from Taiwan to prevent the fruit from bringing pests to the Chinese mainland. The ban aims to cut the risk of plant-based epidemics as since last year, mainland customs repeatedly found quarantine pests in pineapples imported from Taiwan. However, instead of plugging their food safety loopholes, Taiwan s ruling Democratic Progressive Party politicized the issue, saying the move is suppression from the mainland against Taiwan.

(Xinhua/Zhang Guojun) The separatist Taiwan People s Party (TPP) on Wednesday put pressure on the island s authority to consider a tough response to the Chinese mainland s ban on importing pineapples from the island, in the latest sign of misleading political hype that risks undercutting the broad economic bond across the Straits. The TPP s party caucus in Taiwan s Legislative Yuan urged the island s ruling authority to come up with a solution and warn the mainland against the use of trade as a political means, the Taiwan-based Central News Agency (CNA) reported on Wednesday.
