The new pea-processing plant ramping up operations near Portage la Prairie carries great potential for Westman-area producers. Peas thrive under no-till production, of which there is a significant amount in western Manitoba more so than eastern, said Manitoba Pulse and Soybean Growers executive director Daryl Domitruk.
Because of this and various other factors such as humidity levels, Westman is a target area for Roquette’s $600-million facility to draw from, and will require approximately 125,000 acres of yellow peas per year.
