Modesto man kidnaps wife at gunpoint, may be in Mexico, deputies say © Stanislaus County Sheriff s Office javier chavez Law enforcement officials are searching for a Modesto woman who was kidnapped by her estranged husband at gunpoint and may have fled to Mexico, the Stanislaus County Sheriff s Office said Thursday. The incident took place on the evening of April 11. The suspect is believed to be Javier Chavez 41, of Modesto. Sign up for our Newsletters Investigators have been following up on leads in an attempt to locate the missing woman, Susana Torres, 32, also of Modesto. Throughout the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Chavez had abducted Torres and her two children at gunpoint outside of a market in the 600 block of Butte Avenue in Modesto at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, officials said.
