Blackburn bar and hair salon plan for Uncle Jacks pub approved

PLANS for a new bar-bistro and a hair salon at a former match-day haunt for Blackburn Rovers fans have been passed. In March, the Lancashire Telegraph reported that Mark Holden, owner of the nearby plastering contractor Red Rose Dry Lining, had bought the building and had submitted an application to convert and extend Uncle Jacks in Lower Darwen. The Branch Road pub was named after Rovers’ legendary owner the late Jack Walker and shut in November 2018. Now, council chiefs have approved the plans which have been welcomed by councillors. Cllr Denise Gee, who represents Lower Darwen, said: “It is great news as we do not want to see empty places in Blackburn.

A COMMUNITY pub which was a popular match-day haunt for Blackburn Rovers fans could be revived as a bar and bistro under new plans. And the planning application to convert and extend Uncle Jacks in Lower Darwen, which was named after Rovers’ legendary owner the late Jack Walker, could see a hair salon built too.
