PESHAWAR: The number of cases pending with courts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa increased from 261,882 to 275,642 during the first quarter of the judicial performance year (Sep-Nov 2020) due to the month long lawyers’ strike and other factors, said Peshawar High Court registrar Khawaja Wajihuddin on Monday.
During a media briefing, the registrar said 145,858 cases were instituted in district courts during the first quarter of the third performance year against the disposal of 131,993 cases leaving 233,684 pending at the end of Nov 2020 compared to 219,794 at the end of Aug 2020.
He said the number of pending cases in the merged tribal districts increased from 212,886 at the end of Aug 2020 to 226,231 at the end of Nov 2020.
