Devastated friends of the couple killed in yesterday s horror helicopter crash north of Kaikōura have gathered at their family home.
Pilot Andrew Hamish Davidson, 60, and wife Lin Chen, 39, died when their new helicopter crashed at a stony beach 30km north of Kaikōura at about 12.40pm yesterday while on a family trip.
First responders to a fatal helicopter crash in New Zealand ripped the front window off the downed aircraft to free survivors, fearing it would catch fire.
Two people died and three others â all children â were seriously injured when helicopter crashed on to a rocky beach at mouth of the Kekerengu River, north of KaikÅura.
They have since been airlifted to Wellington Hospital.

Kekerengu resident Ian Mehrtens said when he first spotted the helicopter from his lodge, it looked like it was coming in to land.

Brave locals rescued three children from the wreckage of a helicopter crash before a farmer pulled the mangled aircraft out of the mouth of the Kekerengu River.
Two people were killed in the crash and three others - the children - were seriously injured before they were later airlifted separately to Wellington Hospital.
Stuff understands the helicopter was owned by Andrew Hamish Davidson, of Kaiapoi. Davidson, who according to his LinkedIn profile was the general manager at Enatel Motive Power, incorporated helicopter charter company Glenloch Helicopters Ltd on September 28.

A helicopter has crashed north of Kaikōura, leaving two people dead and three injured. Kekerengu resident Ian Mehrtens said that when he first spotted the helicopter from his lodge, it looked like it was coming in to land. “It all happened so quick . It looked normal and then it just started to spiral,” he said. “It just got out of control so quickly.”
