After Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane drafted Gregory Rousseau on Thursday night, he was asked whether adding an edge rusher was the plan going into the NFL Draft.
“(We wanted) Anybody that can affect the passer, so we could have gone interior, on the edge,” he said. “Pass rusher is a premium position. After you get quarterbacks, probably the next highest position is pass rusher.”
About 24 hours laters, Beane pulled the trigger on another pass rusher in the second round by taking Wake Forest defensive end Carlos “Boogie” Basham Jr. There were other options on the board. But after watching the Bills struggle to get to the quarterback last season - especially in the AFC title game - he’s not taking any chances when it comes to a repeat performance in 2021.
