Potash giant Mosaic is hiring back about 100 miners as it temporarily re-starts production at an idled mine in Colonsay.
It was a welcome surprise for union representative Darrin Kruger, who hopes the temporary recall could lead to long-term employment for the hundreds of union members who were issued pink slips when the mine stopped production in August 2019. By 2020, the company said it planned to keep the site idled “for the foreseeable future.”

After almost two years of the Colonsay mine sitting idle, fertilizer producer Mosaic's announcement that operations at the site are restarting has workers and communities in the area hopeful this will be for the long-term.
