Mick McCarthy felt conceding Derby’s second goal shortly after the break was the key moment in Town’s 4-4 draw with the Rams at Pride Park. The Blues had been 4-1 up at the break and looking on their way to their first away win of the season.
Town allowed a 4-1 half-time lead slip as Derby County fought back to claim a 4-4 draw at Pride Park. Daryl Murphy scored twice and Christophe Berra and Aaron Cresswell once each before the break with the home side having pulled one back through Zak Whitbread. The second half was almost constant Rams pressure and they eventually grabbed a point with skipper Craig Bryson scoring twice and Jamie Ward once.
Mick McCarthy admitted that he wasn’t expecting Derby to sack manager Nigel Clough in the wake of their 1-0 defeat to local rivals Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Steve McClaren has been confirmed as Clough’s successor but will take over on Wednesday with academy manager Darren Wassall in charge for tonight s game against Town.
Boss Mick McCarthy wants to see more of the same from the Blues when they take on Derby County at Pride Park this evening. Although Town have picked up just a single point on their travels this season, the Blues manager says they couldn’t have played any better.
