TRIBUTES from people in south Cumbria have poured in following the death of inspirational and heroic Captain Sir Tom Moore at the age of 100. The army veteran won the nation s hearts during the first lockdown, when he raised almost £33m for the NHS by walking laps of his garden. He had been admitted to Bedford Hospital on Sunday after testing positive for coronavirus. Among those in Cumbria to pay tribute to the centenarian was Barrow and Furness MP Simon Fell, who said Capt Sir Tom had ended up showing us the best of ourselves . He was such an inspiration to so many people during the pandemic, a hero all through his life, said Mr Fell.
