COVINGTON COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - A South Dakota-based company has been selected to provide daily meals to inmates at the Covington County Jail.
Covington County supervisors voted this week to enter into a contract with Summit Jail Food Service from Sioux Falls, S.D.
The company will prepare and serve three meals a day for inmates. They will be made at the new kitchen facility at the Covington County Law Enforcement Complex.

COLLINS, Miss. (AP) A South Dakota-based company has been chosen to provide daily meals to inmates at a Mississippi jail.
Covington County supervisors voted this week to award a contract to Summit Jail Food Service of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to handle food service at the county jail, WDAM-TV reported.
Only two companies bid to provide meal service at the jail, and Sheriff Darrell Perkins said the offer from Summit Jail Food Service was the lowest of the two.
The company will prepare and serve three meals a day at the new kitchen facility at the Covington County Law Enforcement Complex. Construction of that kitchen started in 2019 and was completed in early 2020. The cost of the facility was nearly $500,000.

COLLINS, Miss. (WDAM) - The Covington County Sheriffâs Department has hired some new full-time radio dispatchers and Covington County Sheriff Darrell Perkins says it should improve 911 service in that county.
Last week, three new full-time employees for the 911 dispatch were hired, which brings the total number of full-time dispatchers to eight.
About two months ago, the Covington County Sheriffâs Department took over dispatch services, after the resignation of former emergency management director and 911 coordinator Greg Sanford.

COVINGTON COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - Two companies have submitted bids to operate the new jail kitchen at the Covington County Law Enforcement Complex.
Covington County Supervisors opened bids Friday from Tiger Correctional Services of Jonesboro, Ark., and Summit Jail Food Service from Sioux Falls, S.D.
Supervisors and Sheriff Darrell Perkins are considering the offers and Perkins hopes a final decision can be made early next week.
“We’re hoping June first, someone can start preparing meals in the kitchen,” said Perkins. “They have to apply for a food service permit, they also have to have a dietician on staff, hire some employees, do background, you know, we may be pushed over a little bit past the June one, possibly into July, but we’re in the advanced stage now of getting
Almost $11,000 of stolen Dollar General merchandise found

COVINGTON COUNTY, Miss. (AP) Law enforcement in a Mississippi county say they found around $11,000 worth of stolen Dollar General merchandise hidden in a shed and truck at someone’s home.
Covington County Sheriff Darrell Perkins told WLBT-TV his deputies were working with an investigator hired by Dollar General after a string of recent thefts.
Perkins said Dollar General officials believed a delivery driver was taking merchandise out of trucks and keeping it, according to WLBT.
Their investigation led them to home in the northeast part of the county. A storage shed and truck contained nearly $11,000 of stolen goods.
