Lawrence Memorial Day parade canceled
Lawrence Township’s first post-COVID 19 Memorial Day parade’s participants and spectators had to take a rain check, after township officials called off the parade because of poor weather on May 29.
The parade, which township officials hoped would restore a sense of normalcy, was slated to kick off at 10 a.m. from the Lawrence High School parking lot. It would have followed its traditional route on Princeton Pike to Darrah Lane, Birchwood Knoll and onto Oaklyn Terrace and into Veterans Park for a short ceremony.
However, the rain did not stop Mayor James Kownacki and Township Council members Christopher Bobbitt, Cathleen Lewis, Michael Powers – accompanied by American Legion Post 414 Commander Charles Brothers – from placing remembrance wreaths at the memorials at Veterans Park and the Lawrence Township Municipal Building.

The Princeton Mercer Regional Chamber will return to hosting in-person events.
The first in-person event on the calendar is June 24’s Business After Business, which will be held at Arm & Hammer Park, home of the Trenton Thunder. The event will run from 5–7 p.m. and will include light appetizers and beer and wine. It is open to both members and non-members.
The summer calendar includes many in-person events:
· Princeton Pitch Stop, a program of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Council, will be hosted by Grounds for Sculpture on July 13. This event will feature pitch presentations from various start-ups with real-time feedback from experienced investors including Sean O’Sullivan of SOSV and Kelly Ford from Edison Partners.

The Memorial Day Parade in Lawrence Township is ON for 2021, according to the Lawrence Township Recreation Department.
The parade will be Saturday, May 29th at 10am. The town is currently looking for participants. A recent Facebook post read: The Lawrence Township Patriotic Committee and Lawrence Township Recreation Department are looking for Veterans, Current Service Men and Women, Non-Profit Community Groups, Marching Bands, and Vehicles (Classic, Antique, Military).
Hooray for a sense of normalcy, although, the town is assuring everyone that proper CDC guidelines will be followed. Lawrence Dems file for Township Council seats
Two Democrats have filed nominating petitions to run for two open seats on the Lawrence Township Council, eliminating any political party primary fight in the June 8 Democratic Party primary.
Incumbent Township Councilmen James Kownacki and Christopher Bobbitt, both Democrats, filed their nominating petitions by the April 5 deadline.
Kownacki is serving in the ceremonial post of mayor for 2021.
No one filed to run for the Republican Party nomination for the Lawrence Township Council in the June 8 Republican Party political primary – the first time in several years that the party is not fielding candidates.
