From staff reports HAMMONDSVILLE The Edison Local School District is looking to reduce chronic absenteeism and is seeing some positive results with the addition of a new truancy officer. School board members approved the hiring of Anthony Pierro during the Feb. 25 regular meeting, but his contract is retroactive to Feb. 1. Superintendent Bill Beattie said Pierro’s presence already has yielded improvements among student attendance and leaders want to maintain the momentum. “We’ve been monitoring our chronic absenteeism since the beginning of October and there’s so much responsibility on the principals, guidance counselors and SRO’s, so the board made a commitment to hire someone to handle absenteeism in the district,” Beattie said.

Somerset woman pleads not guilty to attempted murder charge

Darlene Mason A Somerset woman accused of trying to kill her husband was arraigned in Pulaski District Court on Monday. Darlene Mason, 39, pleaded not guilty to Attempted Murder (Domestic Violence) before District Judge Katie Slone, who scheduled her preliminary hearing for January 6. According to Mason s arrest citation, the Pulaski County Sheriff s Office responded to a domestic shooting report at a residence on Woodland Trail around 1:50 a.m. the morning of December 22. At the scene, Mason advised deputies that she and her husband had been arguing when she threw a Christmas decoration at him. He then threw it back, Mason was reported to have said, hitting her in the leg before leaving the residence. Mason denied shooting her husband and told deputies there were no weapons in the house, though she would later show them where her husband s handgun was located.

Dec 15, 2020 Russell Glen Mason, 65, passed away, unexpectedly on Friday, December 11, 2020, at the University of Vermont Medical Center, in Burlington, VT. Mr. Mason was born in Elizabethtown, NY on July 16, 1955. He was the son of James and Arlene (Jones) Mason. He grew up on the family farm on Reber Road, in Willsboro, NY, where he received his early education, and was a member of the Willsboro, NY High School, class of 1973. Russell lived his life as a hardworking man who cared for anyone he met. He started that life at his family farm. He was a volunteer fireman and Chief, for the local fire department, in his younger years. He had worked as a woodsman, logging various area of New York State, as well as driving tractor trailer for himself and others. Russell spent 25 hardworking and dedicated years at McIntyre Fuels in Middlebury, where he did everything from driving gas tankers, to fixing them, and eventually installing commercial fuel tanks and systems.
