NOVI With 16 state titles, countless individual state champions, and 28 straight Catholic High School League titles to its historic collection, Detroit Catholic Central High School’s wrestling program is in a league of its own when it comes to legacy.
KALAMAZOO Alex Facundo had a really good week.
The Davison senior came into the Division 1 individual wrestling state finals at Wings Event Center ranked No. 1. He leaves with four consecutive state championships the 30th wrestler in state history to do so.
He is also reveling in the satisfaction of a team state title in the same arena four days earlier.
“This has been the best week of my high school career,” Facundo said after the win at 171 pounds. “Not only winning a fourth (individual state championship) but winning a team state title that they’ve never won in 15 years. So, that’s just special, that’s never going to leave us. With my name they’re going to hear four-timer, but they’ll also hear 2021 state champ wrestling team.
