The head of a union representing a large number of construction workers in the province says infrastructure spending is one of the keys to the rebuilding process for the industry in 2021. Darin King is the executive director of Trades NL. He believes that such an investment would be beneficial. He says history will show that investing in construction during an economic downturn is the single biggest driver of jobs and money flowing through the economy. King hopes the government will make continued investments on that front, while also combining it with an NL First Hiring policy.

Trades NL Donates $30,000 to the Gathering Place

Dec 22, 2020 12:37 PM A local organization that represents unionized skilled trades workers made a sizeable donation this week to aid those in need. Trades NL stopped by the Gathering Place yesterday with a cheque for $30,000. Executive director Darin King says while many of their members are facing challenging times, they recognize that the needs of the Gathering Place continue to grow. As such, he says, they are dedicated to continuing the tradition of sharing support. Over the past four years, Trades NL has contributed over $127,000 to the Gathering place.
