Hanukkah celebrations look different this year You really just want to be able to celebrate in safety, better we should miss a little this year and celebrate later together, says Rabbi Darah Lerner. MAINE, USA Hanukkah is a holiday that celebrates resilience and light in dark times. I think this year more than any other year, both of those things are important, Rabbi Darah Lerner of Congregation Beth El in Bangor said.
Thursday marks the first night of Hanukkah.
The eight-day festival of lights is typically celebrated with a menorah lighting, prayers, family, food, and games. This year, all of those things will happen but some synagogues are doing it from the safety of their home.
