2 dogs left tied to post in what police call case of cruelty to animals

Athens-Clarke police are investigating a complaint about two dogs left tied to a post in the summer sun, where their suffering necessitated an overnight stay at the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine. What police described as a case of  “cruelty to animals” occurred last Friday outside the Athens-Clarke County Animal Services facility on Buddy Christian Way. Police said the dogs, discovered by animal control workers, were abandoned. “It was very hot (about 85 degrees) and the dogs did not have any water,” police officer Dara Deckert wrote in her report. The dogs, an English bulldog and a German-shepherd mix, were panting heavily when Decker arrived, according to the report. The bulldog was drooling excessively and appeared to have trouble breathing, and the dog’s temperature had topped 104 degrees.
