Daphne hires new fire chief

By Guy Busby DAPHNE – Retired Mobile district chief LeAnn Tacon will become Daphne’s new fire chief Monday, following action by the City Council. The council voted Monday, Jan. 4, to name Tacon as chief. Tacon accepted the offer later in the week and will start Thursday, Jan. 14. She will become the fifth person to oversee the Daphne Fire Department in about a year. She replaces Melvin Brown, a former Birmingham battalion chief, who was hired in June and resigned in December. Brown was hired to replace James “Bo” White who retired at the end of December 2019 after 12 years as chief.

BMFD honors Capt Jeremy McKissack

By Tina Covington/For The Onlooker BAY MINETTE The Bay Minette Fire Department recently celebrated the career of Capt. Jeremy McKissack as he entered retirement. Earlier this year, McKissack was diagnosed with a brain tumor in the base of his brain stem and has been undergoing treatment ever since. “It’s hard to see this stature of a firefighter leave the business so soon, as most know we were not expecting things to end this way,” said Fire Chief Mike Minchew. During the ceremony, McKissack was presented a special plaque commemorating his years of service and in honor of all he has meant to the Bay Minette Fire Department.
