The Danvers High School band was sitting in the auditorium after its final practice of the year. We watched as the end of year review screen faded to black, only for a globe to appear and start spinning on the screen. The room went silent. We all knew what it meant: We were going on a trip. As the world began to slow down and appeared to stall over the eastern hemisphere someone yelled, “We’re going to Africa!”
But the globe stopped over the Pacific Ocean, and the director came out from behind the stage curtain in shorts, a Hawaiian shirt, and sunglasses.
