A 20-year-old man was behind bars Friday in connection with a fatal shooting near Spring Valley.
George Gomez III of San Diego was booked Thursday on suspicion of second-degree murder for allegedly gunning down Dante Lopez, 42, according to sheriff s officials.

Sheriff’s detectives have arrested a 20-year-old San Diego man on suspicion of murder days after a man was fatally shot on a Spring Valley street.
George Gomez was taken into custody Wednesday in connection with the death of 42-year-old Dante Lopez, homicide Lt. Tom Seiver said.
Gomez remained jailed without bail Friday. He is due in court Wednesday to ask a judge to set bail and conditions of release.
About 11:15 p.m. Sunday, someone called 911 to report hearing gunfire near the intersection of Elkelton Boulevard and Crestmore Avenue. Deputies arrived and found Lopez in the street. The San Diego man had been shot.
