Tropical storm Fiona gained strength overnight as it headed toward Puerto Rico. The National Hurricane Center issued a hurricane warning and alerts for life threatening floods and mudslides .

The tropical storm is expected to strengthen into a hurricane and drop as much as 20 inches of rain beginning Sunday. Forecasters are warning of landslides and heavy flooding on parts of the island.
