From the time Sue Emeny was a toddler the smell of lead, moving machinery and ink permeated her life, being the daughter of print foreman, Trevor, at the Dannevirke Evening News.
Sue said her dad worked long hours in the production of Dannevirke s daily paper and she spent time watching and learning about the business, developing a desire to become a journalist.
At age 17 she joined the company as a cadet and worked three years in that role under the guidance of local icons Warren Barton, Colin Laurie and Hap Appleton. She had to overcome incredible shyness but experience is a great teacher.

When Murray and Beth Holden visited a Feilding garden they were intrigued to see an unusual dahlia growing.
The owner of the garden was former Dannevirke resident Erin Gould, who revealed that the dahlia was actually known as the Dannevirke dahlia.
As the vice-president of the Dannevirke Gallery of History, Holden was interested in researching the background to the Dannevirke dahlia.
In hunting through Gallery of History records, Holden discovered that in 1950 the then Dannevirke mayor Edward Gibbard made an appeal through the Evening News for suggestions for a suitable flower or shrub to be adopted as a floral symbol for the borough.
