Showcasing the green construction sites of tomorrow

E-Mail IMAGE: The project will demonstrate elements of the green construction site of the future through modern technological solutions in interaction with efficient logistics and intelligent operations. view more  Credit: Per Aarsleff A/S Ambitious climate plans in Denmark and a strong focus on pollution from urban construction sites call for a green transformation of the building and construction sector. The sector accounts for 2.2 per cent of total carbon emissions in Denmark, and is also responsible for a major share of the total particulate pollution from road traffic. Over the next three years, a new project funded by the Eco-Innovation programme (MUDP) under the Danish Environmental Protection Agency will be examining the effect of various climate-friendly initiatives that can promote a green transition for construction sites.

They can capture more carbon than they emit So why aren t wooden buildings mainstream? – Horizon Magazine Blog

Four storeys high and made almost entirely of wood, the ZEB Lab building in Trondheim, Norway, had, even before it existed, sucked as much carbon from the atmosphere as it would probably produce in construction. Now, thanks to its arboreal origins, as well as to the sleek expanse of solar panels on its roof and to other energy efficiency measures, it is a carbon-negative building. In other words, from birth to demise, it will have drawn down more carbon than it emitted. There are various ways to store excess carbon dioxide. ‘One way is to have it hidden in buildings,’ says Tero Hasu, a project manager at Kouvola Innovation, a municipally owned development company of the City of Kouvola in Finland. The ZEB (zero emission building) Lab achieves this by using wood for almost everything – from beams to pillars and staircases. Concrete is to be found only in the foundations and the ground floor.

German Study of HFO and TFA Due in Early 2021

German Study of HFO and TFA Due in Early 2021 By Michael Garry, Jan 13, 2021, 14:17 • 5 minute reading Research project will focus on the refrigeration/air conditioning sector, amid growing industry concerns about the long-term environmental impact of TFA. When it escapes into the atmosphere, the HFO R1234yf – used widely in motor vehicle air conditioning and in food retail applications in blends with HFCs – lasts only up to two weeks. It then breaks down completely into trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), a highly durable and mobile substance. TFA descends via rainfall as a form of “acid rain to the earth; there it accumulates in various bodies of water, including rivers, streams, lakes and wetlands.
