Denmark plans to increase its defense spending by 40.5 billion Danish crowns over the next five years to bolster its military. This funding is in addition to the 155 billion crowns pledged last year for defense over the next decade. COPENHAGEN (Reuters) -Denmark's farmers on Wednesday voiced concerns that plans to levy a carbon emission tax on farming as part of efforts to meet Denmark's ambitious climate goals would force them to reduce production and close farms. Denmark, a major pork and dairy exporter, could become the first country in the world to levy an emissions tax on farming, a move that has broad political backing in the country, after New Zealand last year pushed back such a tax to the end of 2025. A carbon tax on farmers could help Denmark achieve its legally-binding 2030 target of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 70% from 1990 levels.
LONDON (Reuters) -Pandora, the world's biggest jewellery maker, said on Wednesday its performance since the start of the year has been "healthy" with high single-digit sales growth, as it announced a share buyback programme after a strong run. Pandora, which sells charm bracelets with prices ranging from $60 to more than $2,000, has been a rare bright spot among retailers and brands targeting aspirational consumers with affordable luxury items. The company aims for organic revenue growth of 6%-9% in 2024, it said, after reporting strong sales of its silver charms and bracelets which have helped its share price to more than double since the start of last year.
The Danish drugmaker is working to convince European governments and insurers to reimburse the drug, seeking to position it as more than a lifestyle drug. Wegovy was launched in the U.S. in June 2021 but it took Novo until December 2022 to make all doses available there because of an initial production problem.
The Novo Nordisk Foundation, which controls drug maker Novo Nordisk, said on Monday it would commit up to 1.8 billion Danish crowns ($265 million) to setting up an initiative aimed at improving vaccines for respiratory diseases. A huge windfall from the runaway success of Novo Nordisk's weight-loss drug Wegovy has bulged coffers of the foundation, potentially making it a major philanthropist and environmental, social and governance (ESG) investor. The initiative aims to create new or improved vaccines for some of the deadliest respiratory diseases, including tuberculosis, influenza and group A streptococcus, which collectively cause more than 2.5 million deaths per year, the foundation said.
