SAN DIEGO
There were times when Safia Haidari and her family didn’t know where to turn to get help with her Type 1 diabetes.
For years after she was diagnosed with diabetes at age 8, Haidari’s family had trouble locating the right doctors and pharmacies. They had come from Afghanistan and were covered by Medi-Cal, California’s Medicaid health care program, but they had difficulties getting help navigating the health care system.
As she grew older she faced some of the same issues. Now 25, Haidari, who lives in San Diego, said she found the whole health care process intimidating until recently.
