Engineers in Utah making holograms that move

Engineers in Utah making holograms that move Engineers in Utah have come up with a way to make moving holograms and they could become a part of our everyday lives in the future By: KSTU Staff and last updated 2021-05-10 19:13:03-04 PROVO, Utah — You ve likely watched the scene from Star Wars: A New Hope where Princess Leia delivers a message in the form of a Hologram. Now engineers at Brigham Young University in Provo are getting closer to the goal of making this a reality. Professor Daniel Smalley and his team can now project small holographic animations into the real world.

Hologram experts can now create real images that move in the air, like a 3D printer of light

May 10, 2021 by archyde Use lasers to create science fiction exhibits based on Star Wars and Star Trek. They may be small arms, but BYU’s holographic research group has figured out how to create light bulbs – green for Yoda and red for Darth Vader, naturally – with actual light rays emanating from them. Inspired by science fiction exhibits, the researchers also designed fights between equally small versions of the Starship Enterprise and the Klingon Battle Cruiser that involve firing Photon torpedoes and hitting an enemy ship that you can see with the naked eye. “What you see in the scenes we create is real; “There is nothing computer-generated about them,” said lead researcher Dan Smalley, a professor of electrical engineering at the University of British Petroleum. “It’s not like movies, as there really were no light bulbs or photon torpedoes in the physical space. These are real and if you look at them from any angle you will see them in this space. ‘
