Police in Nigeria said Tuesday they detained at least 67 people celebrating a gay wedding in one of the largest mass detentions targeting homosexuality, which is outlawed in the West African country.
The police in Delta State on Tuesday said the confession of a male cross-dresser who claimed to be an actor, led to the arrest of 67 suspects - both male and female - for allegedly conducting and attending a same-sex wedding ceremony in the state. SaharaReporters had reported that Delta State command of the Nigeria Police Force arrested over 100 men suspected to be carrying out a “gay wedding ceremony”, in the state.
Police said a suspect, 23-year-old Abel Daniel, admitted that, under the influence of alcohol, he had sex through his anus with a male suspect who is at large.
