Virginia Tech Criticized Over Pardoned Turkeys in New PETA Ad

Megan Wiltsie 202-483-7382 Blacksburg, Va. – “Pardoned in Washington. Punished at Virginia Tech.” That’s the message of a new PETA ad running on Sunday in the Roanoke Times that lets the public in on a dirty secret: Four turkeys issued a “full and complete pardon” by former President Donald J. Trump who called one of them “so lucky” are being housed in dirty, barren cells at Virginia Tech, and they’re so stressed and depressed from a lack of fresh air and sunlight and with nothing to see or do at all that their feathers are falling out. PETA points out that the public was told that the pardoned turkeys were “alive and well” at the inaptly named “Gobblers Rest” which is a far cry from the reality at the university.

Readers sound off on reasonable rally-goers, Marjorie Taylor Greene and pardoned turkeys

Brooklyn: A recent Daily News article referenced numerous citations from Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro’s department memorandum regarding the conduct of active and retired FDNY members at political rallies and functions (”Be brave, not bozos,” Jan. 15). I find the tone and equally biased slant of the article to be of particular concern as someone who was there at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Those seeking last minute pardons from President Trump had better hope they fare better than four of the turkeys the lame-duck leader granted clemency to before Thanksgiving Day 2018 and 2019, according to one prominent animal rights group. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals claims that big birds Peas, Carrots, Bread and Butter have found themselves in “abysmal living conditions” since being spared the slaughterhouse during ceremonies on the White House lawn, then sent to Gobbler’s Rest on the campus of Virginia Tech.
