have seen six years of the arab spring, horrific violence throughout the region, terrorist attacks and so many of these countries have now voted in or allowed autocratic leaders like the president assisi who have been running and really governing on a platform of law and order. they are forbidden any more protests. and that s kind of popular. a lot of people here are just tired of protesting. they are tired of the political volatility that is defined in the region for the past six to seven years. and people here are not going to be interested in seeing more protests over something that is in a foreign country. hallie? matt bradley in cairo, thank you. as matt was popping, a note popped into my e-mail here, information from the white house senior administration official saying it is time to move past the political fiction they say of the u.s. not knowing where the capital is in israel. i want to get reaction from the former ambassador to israel and egypt, daniel kertzer, thank you
scholar at the woodrow wilson international center. miller is also the former adviser to six secretaries of state on arab/israeli negotiations and daniel kertzer is a former ambassador to israel and egypt and a professor of middle east policy studies at princeton university. two wonderful minds to come on the show and speak about this topic. we heard from both kerry as well as netanyahu and aaron david miller, i want to start with you. netanyahu says it s a shame secretary kerry does not understand his own personal perspective on the impact of war. what is your reaction to that statement? i mean, look i think where you stand in life has a good deal to do with where you sit and the reality is washington and jerusalem are sitting in very different places. the prime minister s reaction i think was driven in large part by anger and resentment, he tried to mobilize the president-elect and the president of egypt. he did not succeed and now i think he s caught in a very difficult bind betwe

lie but the responsibility will really arrest with the two sides. there have been some conservative voices calling for secession of aid. would that be a mistake right now? it would be absurd. it s the wrong time to be punitive on either side. the palestinian authority condemned the kidnapping of the three israeli teens. i understand the palestinian security forces offered to help israel find the three teenagers after they were kidnapped. to punish the palestinian authority now would be short sighted and fool hearty and diminish our own capability of helping these two sides get out of the mess. ambassador, appreciate it. mark, did she s israeli strikes overnight and in the day before help or do they risk exacerbating the situation? well, we re just trying to defend ourselves. you know, israel is not in the
