A Board of Police Commissioners, including KCMO Mayor Quinton Lucas, currently oversees the police department. The governor appoints the remaining four members.

Sat May 29, 2021 The newly arrived radical leftist mayor of St. Louis, Missouri, the city with the worst murder rate in America, is committed to leaving her constituents at the mercy of violent criminals by defunding the local police department and shutting down one of the city’s two jails. St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones, a woke black Democrat, was sworn in in April after narrowly defeating Cara Spencer, a similarly woke leftist white woman. Jones’s campaign, which focused on “progressive” criminal justice reforms, was unabashedly racist. She said during a debate that Spencer wouldn’t be a good mayor because her skin was the wrong color.

Jones said of the city’s police. If they can’t trust each other, then how can they expect the public to trust them?
St. Louis has outpaced its 2020 murder rate of 87 murders per 100,000 so far this year, despite that number being the worst in the nation last year. While city officials have pointed to the pandemic as the reason for the grim murder numbers, the city also had the nation’s highest murder rate in 2019.
In St. Louis, Mo., the worst-in-country murder rate is at a 50-year high, the police department has nearly 100 unfilled jobs, and the mayor wants to defund the department and shut down a city jail.

St. Louis officials say steps to address complaints about conditions at the St. Louis Justice Center and the Medium Security Institution known as the Workhouse are underway, including hiring a new food service provider at the Justice Center.

“We certainly had complaints about the quality of food, and we want to address that,” Isom said. “One of the issues is that the food is prepared at the Justice Center, and then delivered to MSI. And so you might imagine, that is a logistically pretty challenging effort.”
