American, Southwest, Alaska, Spirit Airlines Post Quarterly Results

However, excluding US$1.95 bn in special credits that included funding from the federal Payroll Support Program (PSP), the net loss was US$2.7 bn. The quarterly load factor was 59.5 percent. “We remain confident the network enhancements, customer-focused improvements and efficiency measures we’ve put into place will ensure American is well-positioned for the recovery.” AA incorporated more than US $1.3 bn of permanent cost reductions into its 2021 plans, including deferring and converting five Boeing 787-8 aircraft to the 787-9 models and deferring deliveries of new 737 MAX aircraft to 2023 and 2024.

Air France Announces Paris-Denver Flights

MIAMI – Air France (AF) has announced a new nonstop route from Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) to Denver International Airport (DEN) starting in July. International travel restrictions remain in place, which hinders the recovery of certain international and long-haul flights. In an unexpected move, France’s flag carrier, Air France, has revealed intentions to launch flights from its Paris hub to Denver, Colorado. Air France is set to operate 3x weekly flights to Denver from July 2 through October 29, 2021 using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The aircraft offers a capacity of 279 seats, consisting of 30 in Business Class, 21 in Premium Economy, and 228 in Economy Class.

Delta Air Lines Adds New Routes, More Destinations

MIAMI – Delta Air Lines (DL) is expanding its network with several additional routes and destinations to challenge its biggest competitors and chase after leisure customers. Delta Air Lines added two destinations to its route map this past weekend – Canyonlands Regional Airport in Moab, Utah (CNY) and Durango-La Plata County Airport (DRO) in Colorado – according to Both of these destinations will be served from the airline’s Salt Lake City (SLC) hub. According to Delta’s bookings, these two routes will be flown on CRJ-200s which have 50 Economy Class seats. The daily route to Moab begins on May 5 while the flight to Durango begins on May 12 and increases from daily to twice-daily on May 26.

Kenya Joins Nigeria in Reauthorizing the Boeing 737 MAX

MIAMI – The Republic of Kenya joins Nigeria in giving the Boeing 737 MAX the green light to operate in the East African country again. On February 21, 2021, both countries’ Civil Aviation Authorities signaled their satisfaction with Boeing’s modification and recertification program, following the aircraft’s 20-month grounding. While there are no native Boeing 737 MAX operators in Kenya, the release of the ban on the aircraft type in that country allows other carriers, such as Turkish Airways (TK) and Ethiopian Airlines (ET) to operate the aircraft into the country.
