APPLETON – Glen Derks wasn’t scared when a man got into his taxicab, put a gun to his head and demanded cash and a ride to Oshkosh.
Derks had been here before – twice, actually – and he handled it the same way each time. It’s part of the job when you drive a cab for more than 65 years.
“It was always young guys, and I would tell them, Look, if you need some money, I’ll give you $100, you can walk away and your life will be fine, ” Derks said. “ But if you do this, you’re going to go to jail and your life is going to be nothing. It will always be on your record. ”
