Former RAF base is becoming the top destination for vintage car buffs

This Sunday more than 5,000 people will descend on a former RAF base in Oxfordshire to celebrate a motor car scramble event at what is arguably the fastest growing automotive site in the UK.

Funding granted to restore watch tower at Bicester Heritage

Bicester Heritage has been awarded a £25,000 grant to restore a WW2 watch tower on its site. The building, known as ‘The Watch Office’, is located at the heart of the the former RAF Bicester aerodrome and stands as an active monument to the location’s rich aviation history. The fund comes from Historic England as part of its joint venture with Bicester Heritage to help it preserve the surviving defensive structures of RAF Bicester. A Grade II Listed building, the watch tower is one of just three surviving brick-built RAF watch towers in the UK.. The grant from Historic England will help fund repairs to the building s concrete roof structure, brickwork, coping stones and concrete sills.

Town s Covid-19 vaccination centre to be set up at Bicester Heritage

PEOPLE in Bicester will be able to get their Covid vaccinations at a dedicated site at Bicester Heritage. An agreement has been reached for the Bicester Covid-19 Vaccination Centre to operate from a building at the motor site off Skimmingdish Lane. Patients from all three of the town s GP practices will be invited to receive their jabs there during the national vaccination programme that is underway and set to continue throughout the following months. A start date is yet to be confirmed, but the centre is expected to run two or three days a week and may need to extend to four days.
