Good evening. With a death toll of 4 and 16 wounded, all of them members of the u. S. Military, all of them shot by one man on home soil, tonight the u. S. Army launched a massive investigation into what went wrong and into security within the confines of ft. Hood in texas. The massive home to so much of our nations infantry and mechanized forces. For the ft. Hood community and the u. S. Army, its a second tragedy of course in five years. For the families of the departed, there is only mourning and sadness along with the lingering question of why. Williams. Good evening. And sadly tonight again we begin with pictures of sadness and frantic parents outside a school reacting to an attack on their children inside the school. This time it was a knife attack. Random and violent and horrendous. A 16yearold is in custody. At least 19 of his fellow students and a Police Officer hospitalized. Many required emergency surgery to save their lives after deep wounds. And as with all such cases, there was heroism this morning, like the student who had the presence of mind to pull the fire alarm, and the Police Officer and principal who took down the young man with the knife. This all happened at a High School East of pittsburgh this morning. We have a team on the ground there tonight. Well start off with nbcs peter alexander. Peter, good evening. Started slashing and stabbing people along the way. This happened before 7 15 this morning. This is 15 miles east of pittsburgh at franklin high school. The first indication that something was wrong was the fact that someone pulled the fire alarm. The fire alarm went off. I was walking over towards the exit and there was blood on the floor. I thought maybe someone had a nosebleed. Someone yelled she got stabbed. This is the conversation between police and dispatch. We have got victims here. We need ambulances here as soon as possible. Be advised the suspect is in custody. Only one suspect. 19 students and a Security Guard were injured. Many of them were stabbed or slashed in the chest, back, or abdomen and some of the wounds were quite deep and this happened in a suburb. This is a small community, tight knit there in pennsylvania. All but one of the victims were high school students. And treating the wounds this morning, so severe and deep in cases were tough for doctors to save their
